His monoprints are produced on a plexiglass plate that allows him to see through to a drawing on the other side. This acts as a guide for beginning of the print which is why he produces his prints in series; they are all based on a single drawing, variations on a theme. All these prints here have multiple impressions, some as many as six. They reflect his interest in Asian motifs such as his use of Chinese characters. He is also discovering the possibilities of using veils of color to “hide” the image so the viewer has to peer deeper and explore the image more. As in his watercolor paintings, color is also a major theme, though here he is using it to explore more abstract possibilities. He is finding the expressive possibilities of the medium as a liberating experience. |
