"Art is my life, my solace and sanity, the way in which I can best
express my ideas and feelings. It's my link between inner and outer
realities.
With so much chaos and anger in today's world, not only in our
cities but in remote places, any energy which can be channeled
towards healing ourselves or our planet is essential. Art can serve
many purposes and one of those is as a healing force. It is in that
spirit I work." Gail Paradise |

Gail Paradise was born in southern California to parents who were artists. Her
father, Phil Paradise, was well known as a founding member of the
California School of Painting, in the 30's and 40's.
Her dream was to be an artist. By the time she entered Scripps College, she had lived in Mexico, the Caribbean, and on a ranch outside of Tucson, AZ. After graduating from Scripps College in l96l she went to New York to pursue her career as an artist. she stayed there for l3 years, painting, learning printmaking skills at the Printmaking Workshop, and eventually becoming an edition printer. In l974, as a single parent, she moved to Massachusetts and a few years later to a tiny cabin in the woods of New Hampshire, where she worked, gardened, and raised her children. Being surrounded by an intensely beautiful natural environment she began focusing on landscape for the first time. A road trip across Canada and the northern United States in l983 further inspired landscape prints and paintings. In l986, with her youngest child in college, she moved to New Orleans where she immersed herself in the art and jazz culture, establishing herself as a solid professional working artist. During her years there, she started working more and more with clay, always a part of her life. She produced many figurative sculptures in addition to various series of colorful monoprints. In l990 she began casting glass and has been producing glass sculptures ever since. In l998 she returned to her beloved California, this time to the north coast to the tiny town of Tomales where she welcomes visitors to her studio by appointment. |
