Laura La Foręt Lengyel

Laura La Foręt Lengyel is a California based artist who examins female imagery in American culture. Ms Lengyel feels that American culture needs more serious examination, so in 1994 she started the Breast Project which would serve to encourage a national dialogue, rekindle and enliven the discussion about all aspects of the breast in American culture especially concerning women's health issues and status. It was created to bring attention to the false and destructive mythology about the female breast, its biological and aesthetic functions.

Her unique prints called monopressings, are taken from the human body. The artist applies special inks to the body with brushes and presses the body onto rag paper or canvas. Derived from the monoprint, each one is a signed and documented original.
